JAY-Z’s attorney has submitted a collection of evidence disputing a lawsuit that claims the rap icon raped a 13-year-old girl alongside Diddy after the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards.
While addressing reporters at Roc Nation’s New York City headquarters on Monday (December 16), Alex Spiro challenged the anonymous woman’s account to demonstrate that the supposed rape “never occurred.”
In his presentation, Spiro displayed images of Hov from a different occasion than the one his accuser claimed he attended and asserted that none of Diddy’s properties during that period aligned with the lawsuit’s description.
“There isn’t any place like that,” he stated. “We’re unsure if they established a location to gain jurisdiction in New York for bringing this case there, or if they simply failed to prepare properly.”
The lawyer pointed out multiple contradictions in the woman’s account of events, contending that it would have been unfeasible for her to be taken to the afterparty, assaulted, escape to a nearby gas station, and be collected by her father (who was five hours distant) “just before dawn,” as she alleged in her lawsuit.
“These are not trivial discrepancies … If you examine the timing, it’s impossible for this to occur,” Spiro stated, expressing his anticipation that the case “will be thrown out.” “Otherwise, it will break apart.”
Spiro contested the woman’s assertion that she viewed the VMAs on a jumbotron outside Radio City Music Hall, the venue for the awards, since there was no jumbotron that year.
He also emphasized that she couldn’t have accessed Diddy’s limousine because the streets were extensively blocked due to Eminem’s now-legendary VMAs performance.
Spiro also minimized JAY-Z’s connection to Diddy, who is currently dealing with numerous other sexual assault lawsuits and federal charges of sex trafficking and racketeering.
“Mr. Carter is not involved with Mr. Combs’ case or Mr. Combs,” he stated. “They had known each other in a professional capacity for several years.” At music awards, they encourage one another. They attend the NBA All-Star Game and encourage one another. That’s simply the way careers function.
“There is no closer connection among any of them — that is also a matter of fiction.” That’s everything that exists. He is unaware of any charges or accusations made against him. He is not involved in that case, and there’s nothing further to discuss.”
Regarding his client’s response to the lawsuit, Spiro remarked: “He’s frustrated that anyone could be permitted to act in this manner, to ridicule the system like this.” He’s frustrated that this diverts and discourages actual victims from speaking out. He’s frustrated that his children and family must face this. “And he ought to feel angry.”
In reply, the woman’s attorney Tony Buzbee expressed to Complex: “Judicial systems settle factual disagreements.” “They are not settled in press conferences.”
Spiro’s presentation follows closely after the woman acknowledged in an NBC News interview that she made “some mistakes” in her memories of the night of the alleged assault.
JAY-Z replied by releasing a statement that read: “The investigative report released today demonstrates that this ‘attorney’ Buzbee lodged a false complaint against me for the sake of money and notoriety.”
“This event never took place, yet he submitted it to the court and reinforced it in the media.” Genuine Justice is on the way. We battle FROM triumph, not FOR triumph. “This ended before it started.”
