J-Kwon’s two Grammy nominations linked to Shaboozey’s hit “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” have been rescinded, and the St. Louis rapper will only get a certificate if the song succeeds.

Spotted by Billboard over the weekend, the alteration was actually implemented last Thursday (December 12).

Shaboozey’s song has received nominations for both Song of the Year and Best Country Song. Shaboozey’s record-setting song incorporates J-Kwon’s 2004 hit “Tipsy.” When the nominations were initially revealed, the three creators of J-Kwon’s popular song “Tipsy,” which includes J-Kwon himself, were recognized as candidates alongside Shaboozey and the producers and co-writers of “Bar Song,” Nevin Sastry and Sean Cook.

Last week, the Grammys, however, excluded the writers of “Tipsy” from the nominees’ list. This is due to the Grammys’ guideline stating that the “publisher & songwriter(s) of sampled or interpolated material” can only receive certificates, not awards.

In addition to the Grammy nominations, Shaboozey has achieved several recent successes. Last month, he had the chance to spend time with Eminem.

Shaboozey graced the stage during the Lions’ Thanksgiving home game against the Chicago Bears, where he showcased a medley of songs, including his hit, “Tipsy (A Bar Song).”

In a carousel shared on Instagram following the game, Detroit’s own and devoted Lions enthusiast Eminem appeared in the last slide with the singer.

Eminem has always been supportive of emerging artists, and he recently expressed to Latto that he’s a big admirer of hers too.

Em features in the fifth episode of the latest season of Netflix’s Rhythm + Flow, where he fittingly judges the “Battles” round with Latto, his long-time friends Royce Da 5’9” and Mr. Porter, along with host SMACK.

In a video that started to circulate soon after the episode aired on Wednesday (November 27), Em tells a shocked Latto: “I love you, by the way.” “You’re truly amazing.”

In the meantime, Slim Shady has had quite a remarkable year in his career.

In November, his Grammy-nominated album The Death Of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce) officially exceeded one billion streams on Spotify after its July release.

The project is nominated for Best Rap Album at the 2025 Grammy Awards, and its main single “Houdini” is nominated for Best Rap Performance and Best Music Video as well.
