J. Cole once quickly distanced himself from a Muni Long recording session upon hearing her speak poorly, and she fully understands his viewpoint.

In a video that is now trending from a December 2023 interview that the “Made For Me” artist gave on the 85 South Show, Muni looked back on the experience and explained why she chose not to take it personally.

“I recall an occasion in the studio when J. Cole was present.” “I was having a rough day that day and began to just talk nonsense,” she remembered. “I was speaking with my other friend Theron from R. City, who is also a songwriter and artist.” Cole entered the room and, after two minutes, took a seat. He listened to our conversation, then stood up and left. I simply recall thinking, ‘Wow, what made him do that?’ However, I came to understand that we were not aligned on the same wavelength.

“He’s not into that complaining and [things we were talking about] like, ‘Why are those guys always trying to play us? Who do they believe they are? Such discussions are not prevalent in more elevated settings. He didn’t criticize me, he didn’t say anything negative. He remained seated, listened for about a minute, then stood up and departed. When you’re at a high vibration like that, it’s likely that those individuals will bring your energy down. “You won’t be able to raise them.”

The discussion starts at the 9:45 point below.

A sought-after songwriter prior to her rise as a successful singer, Muni Long has numerous tales from the studio.

In a TikTok clip she posted in 2022, Muni disclosed that she was meant to collaborate on a track with Drake before he became famous, but she ultimately ghosted the Toronto artist to satisfy her “jealous” boyfriend (who, it goes without saying, is now her ex).

“Back in 2008, I lost a chance to get a Drake feature because my boyfriend at the time learned he was heading to the studio and erupted in jealousy, so I got scared and stopped replying to his messages,” she wrote under a video of herself applying lip balm while in a car.

In an interview with Apple Music 1’s Ebro Darden later that year, she further elaborated on her relationship with Drake, disclosing that they connected while he was creating his 2009 breakout mixtape So Far Gone, after he listened to her rendition of “Best I Ever Had.”

“I did a cover of ‘Best I Ever Had’ where I performed it on guitar and sang it rather than rapped it,” she stated. “That gained so much popularity that Drake contacted me, saying, ‘Hey, I really appreciate what you did with the track.’” He provided me with his number, and we are conversing. Just to remind you, I’ve recently graduated from high school.

“I used to watch him on Degrassi during my middle school and high school years.” So I’m thinking, ‘Wow, this is Aubrey Graham.’ This is incredible! “Jimmy in a wheelchair.” I recall conversing with him at that time, and he’s like, ‘Yeah, I’m an actor.’ I’m attempting to explore music. I created this mixtape for Valentine’s Day. Didn’t truly regard it as important. Individuals enjoy it. I am vocalizing. “Lil Wayne wants to get me signed.”
