The murder investigation involving 2Pac received a much-needed boost in the previous year, but it looks like the main suspect won’t be in police custody for very long.

Keefe D, whose real name is Duane Davis, has amassed the necessary $750,000 to be released from jail on bond while he awaits the start of the murder trial in November, according to KTNV on Friday, June 21.

Judge Carli Kierny is scheduled to set the terms and conditions of his release from the Clark County Detention Center when he returns to court on Tuesday, June 25. It’s also possible that he will be questioned regarding how he obtained the previously mentioned funds.

Earlier this year, the 61-year-old’s court-appointed lawyers asked the court for leniency, arguing that their client “poses no danger” because of his failing health.

A similar request was denied in late 2023 because prosecutors said Davis was “too dangerous” to be released on bond due to his past as a prominent member of the South Side Compton Crips. They also stressed the fact that the native of California had previously admitted to the rapper’s murder on several occasions.

The only person ever charged with Pac’s murder in Las Vegas more than 25 years ago is the former gang member who was recently afflicted with cancer. Keefe D, who entered a not guilty plea, has maintained on several occasions that he was the mastermind behind the shooting, most notably in his 2019 book Compton Street Legend.

“The veracity of the interview material was never confirmed,” the attorney for Davis contended in his defense. “The interviews and book were produced for financial gain and amusement out of a circumstance in which [LAPD officers] and others had already made money.”

Prosecutors in Nevada assert that on the night of the shooting, the late rapper MC got into a fistfight with Orlando Anderson, the late nephew of the suspect, who was allegedly in Davis’ vehicle when the drive-by attack occurred.

After seeing Mike Tyson fight, Tupac Shakur was tragically shot and killed back in 1996. At the time of his premature death, the multifaceted artist was only 25 years old. He solidified his reputation in less than ten years.
