Ismail Haniyeh, the leader of Hamas, was assassinated on Tuesday in an airstrike near Tehran.
In a statement on Wednesday, Hamas confirmed Mr. Haniyeh’s assassination in Iran.
The leader of the movement, Mujahid Ismail Haniyeh, was a brother, leader, and martyr who was killed in a cunning Zionist raid on his Tehran home. “The Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas mourns to our great Palestinian people, to the Arab and Islamic nation, and to all the free people of the world,” Hamas declared.
The killing was also verified by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran.
“Ismail Haniyeh and one of his bodyguards were martyred early this morning when a bomb struck their Tehran residence,” the IRGC announced. “The cause is being looked into and will be revealed soon.”
Iran claims that the Hamas leader was assassinated following his attendance at the country’s president’s inauguration on Tuesday.
