Thanks to AI developments, Eminem and his alter ego Slim Shady are facing off in a new video.
A calm, bearded Marshall Mathers challenges the bleached-blonde, clean-shaven image of himself that was originally revealed to the public at the end of the 1990s in a narrative published on Tuesday, July 30, as part of his cover story with Complex.
Naturally, this is a far more divisive and vulgar version of Eminem than the more somber version we see now. The video features a humorous back and forth that touches on a variety of topics, including his several allusions to the late Christopher Reeve.
Em doesn’t find humor in tragedy, but Slim finds it humorous that the actor who played Superman fell off a horse. Additionally, Slim didn’t see the need to take offense at others for simply going about their lives; Caitlyn Jenner is one of his main targets.
They also talked about the necessity of hitting some issues — or targets — over others and his (kind of) beef with MGK.
“Yours truly is fucking everything that people think of when they think of Eminem,” Slim declared. “Everything, me, from the fucking jokes to the middle finger to the blonde hair. And to be really honest, it’s not the music you’ve been releasing since I bounced, is it? Look, dude, your poetic marvels are of no consequence to anyone. Hoes are frightened by you! People desire entertainment.
“You think it’s entertaining to just be a dickhead and piss people off?” Em retorted. Gen Z finds you on Mondays and cancels me on Tuesdays every other week on TikTok. When was the last time you shot someone who wasn’t a pop star, a celebrity who wasn’t rapping, or someone who wasn’t fucking oppressed communities?
The video, according to TMZ, was produced in association with Metaphysics, an A.I. studio that also produced Eminem’s most recent “Houdini” video.
Noah Callahan-Bever, Chief Content Officer at Complex and writer for Em, created the video, which is a part of the release of his most recent album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce). With the greatest hip-hop sales week of 2024, the album recently debuted at the top of the Billboard 200.
After holding the top spot for a continuous 12-week run, Em’s 12th album eventually dethroned Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department, debuting at the top of the chart with 281,000 equivalent album-units last month, according to Billboard.
With first-week sales surpassing Future and Metro Boomin’s previous record of 251,000 units sold with We Don’t Trust You, The Death of Slim Shady becomes the biggest rap launch of 2024.
With 114,000 sales equivalent units, Eminem’s most recent release also had the second-largest digital debut of the year, trailing only Swift’s 274,000. Physical copies of The Death of Slim Shady won’t be available until September 13.
The album came in squarely in the middle of the initial estimate, which put its debut week sales between 270,000 and 290,000 album-equivalent units.
Em’s eleventh No. 1 album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce), places him on par with Barbra Streisand, Bruce Springsteen, and Kanye West. The Beatles (19), JAY-Z (also 14), Drake (13), and Swift (14), are the only artists with more.
Additionally, the album’s first week of sales exceeded both the release weeks of Slim Shady’s previous albums, Music to be Murdered By (2020) and Revival (2017, 267,000).
