Amidst the intense rivalry between the Canadian celebrities, Lil Wayne has been charged with betraying Drake for allegedly professing love to The Weeknd.
Weezy sports a diamond chain bearing The Weeknd’s XO record label emblem in the music video for his latest “high3r” single, which was made available on Tuesday, August 6. The song features collaborations with Mike WiLL Made-It and Lil Yachty.
The vocalist of “Blinding Lights” called attention to this personally and thanked Wayne on social media for the tribute.
The Weeknd posted a snapshot of the video along with the caption, “The [G.O.A.T.] @liltunechi rocking the XO playing the [guitar],” on his Instagram Stories.
Given the previous barbs directed at Drake and The Weeknd on songs like “Push Ups,” “Family Matters,” and “All to Myself,” fans were quick to doubt Lil Wayne’s motivations.
On social media, someone said, “Treachery is afoot,” while another questioned, “Make this make sense?”
Others, like one who said, “Yeah, wayne and drake definitely got beef,” were certain that the former Young Money labelmates were having problems.
Wayne is known for being ignorant of current affairs, so one fan made light of this by saying, “Wayne the type to walk in the middle of a shootout and not know wtf going on [crying face emoji].”
In his ongoing feud with Kendrick Lamar, Lil Wayne only seemed to swear loyalty to Drake last month, despite the apparent betrayal.
During his performance of “The Motto” in Las Vegas, the New Orleans native gave the audience a glimpse of his OVO chain and rewrote the lyrics of Kendrick Lamar’s smash hit song “Not Like Us” from “they not like us” to “they don’t like us.”
On “Not Like Us,” Kendrick makes reference to Tunechi, saying that Drake once had an affair with the girlfriend of his former label president.
“Fucked on Wayne girl while he was in jail, that’s connivin’/ Then get his face tatted like a bitch apologizin,’” he raps.
In his 2016 book Gone ‘Til November: A Journal of Rikers Island, Wayne revealed this information, albeit he made it clear that it occurred prior to him and his ex-girlfriend starting a romantic relationship.
“I woke up feeling just as screwed up as I had felt all day. It was hell, that’s for sure! He wrote, “I’m used to fighting with my girl [daily], but learning that she fucked Drake was the worst thing I could have learned.”
To be honest, not because it was Drake, but because it upset me as a man. It would have hurt the same if it had been any male. She said that happened long before we were dating, but she never disclosed it to me. “Yeah, it’s true. Don’t fuck with her like that because I did fuck her,” Drizzy said when he came to visit me. Oh no!
