Preliminary images from the session appear to show that Kendrick Lamar is still making fun of Drake in the music video for “Not Like Us.”
Late this month, K. Dot shot the music video for his smash hit song “Drizzy diss,” in Compton, California. He brought along a phalanx of friends, collaborators, and locals for the shoot.
Thanks to photos that leaked on social media, fans can finally see the finished result for the first time. One particularly spicily-posed photo shows Kendrick striking an owl piñata, referencing Drake’s OVO logo.
The pgLang rapper defies the 6 God’s attempt to draw his family into the dispute by showing up in another photo with his fiancée Whitney Alford and their two kids.
On “Family Matters,” Drake asserted that one of the couple’s children truly belonged to Lamar’s manager Dave Free and accused Kendrick of abusing his longtime spouse.
In the fourth image, Kendrick is pictured hanging out in the neighborhood with members of his former TDE family, including presidents Terrence “Punch” Henderson and Anthony “Moosa” Tiffith Jr., as well as label founder Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith, ScHoolboy Q, Jay Rock, and Ab-Soul.
Producer of “Not Like Us,” Mustard, was also seen at the video shoot sporting a Toronto Blue Jays cap, which led to rumors that he was also making fun of Drake.
However, the multi-platinum producer refuted the accusation in an interview with Big Boy, stating, “I wasn’t trolling.” I wasn’t trolling at all. I purchased a number of my favorite headwear. I purchased hats for the STL, Angels, and Braves. I put the title of his new album, Faith of a Mustard Seed, on every one of them.
“That was the final hat I had with Faith of a Mustard Seed on it, and I sweated out two of them at ‘Pop Out,’ [Kendrick Lamar’s Inglewood show]. It was a Toronto Blue Jays hat, by coincidence.
Mustard said that the cap was a tribute to Baldwin Village, his childhood neighborhood in South Los Angeles, sometimes referred to as “the Jungles.”
“We all wear that hat; we grew up in the jungles,” he remarked. “Yeah, I wear the neighborhoods and NY hat, which is Nip’s hat. I never gave it much attention since our headwear have multiple meanings, so I wasn’t thinking, “Oh, I’m tryna troll y’all.”
“I would have probably put an X between it and wacked the Blue Jay off if I had been on that.” However, I wasn’t on that.
The “Not Like Us” video looks to be arriving shortly, although no release date has been given yet.
