The average retail price of a liter of gasoline climbed from N545.83 in June 2023 to N750.17 in June 2024, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). This was mentioned in its Petroleum Price Watch for June 2024, which was made public on Thursday in Abuja.
It said that the price of N750.17 in June 2024 was 34.77 percent more than the price of N545.83 in June 2023.
As per the data, there was a 2.53% decline in the average retail price from N769.72 compared to the previous month of May.
According to a report on state profiles research, Benue had the highest average retail price per litre, at N854.55. Jigawa and Rivers came in second and third, at N847.00 and N810.00, respectively.
According to the report, Ogun, Lagos, and Kwara paid the lowest average retail prices, at N670.63, N650.00, and N626.94, respectively.
Zone-by-zone analysis revealed that, in June 2024, the South-South had the highest average retail price of N794.64, while the South-West had the lowest price, N696.42 per litre.
The average retail price was N1,462.98 per litre, according to the NBS’s June 2024 Diesel Price Watch Report.
The price per liter in June 2024 was reported to be N1,462.968, representing a 79.32% increase over the N815.83 per litre paid in June 2023.
It also stated that the price climbed by 4.20 percent month over month from the N1,403.96 per litre recorded in May 2024.
According to a state profile research, Niger had the highest average diesel price in June 2024 at N1,979.23 per litre, followed by Taraba at N1,742.46 and Cross River at N1,920.86.
The lowest price, however, was N1,210.77 per liter in Lagos, followed by N1,239.17 in Ogun and N1,240.00 in Abuja.
Furthermore, the zone-by-zone research revealed that the South-West had the lowest price, N1,280.54 per liter, and the North-East had the highest price, N1,659.07 per litre.
