While freestyling over a rhythm by another legendary artist, Ab-Soul has compared himself to one of the greatest MCs in Hip Hop history.

The TDE rapper made his debut appearance in the studio for On the Radar Radio’s well-liked freestyle series ahead of the November 8 release of his new album Soul Burger.

Rapper Soulo boldly compared himself to Eminem, spitting smooth bars over JAY-Z’s upbeat “Squeeze 1st” instrumental: “Get ready for the coup de grâce, who am I? / Marshall Mathers with melanin / Kept it G even when I’m embellishing.”

Before putting his own spin on a few lines from the original Hov track, the Black Lip Pastor also mentioned J. Cole, Kirk Franklin, Banksy, and Doechii, a member of the TDE label: “Thou shalt not fuck with raw me / Or he face a thousand deaths / From Mr. Herbert Anthony / Stevens, IV full of potent dope / Not a Cuban cigar maker but I need all of the smoke.”

Ab-Soul’s selection of the beat “Squeeze 1st” was appropriate considering The song “Squeeze 1st 2” by Soul Burger pays homage to the Dynasty: Roc La Familia cut, however it has a drastically different tempo.

Ab-Soul has already made no secret of his admiration for JAY-Z; in a recent interview with Home Grown Radio, he referred to the Roc Nation CEO as his favorite rapper.

“Jay-Z is by far my favorite,” he declared. “He got all the stuff while doing everything that these guys [like Ras Kass and Canibus] do.” He’s capable of outrapping everyone. He is also capable of outrapping you and cutting off the beat. However, he is also capable of creating a radio record.

Compared to Ab-Soul’s freestyle on Funkmaster Flex’s Hot 97 radio show last month, it appears like this one won’t make as much of an impression.

In apparent response to a recent Instagram post by Drake’s close buddy OVO Chubbs that read, “Actions Speak Louder Than Words,” he spat out, “Actions speak loud but so do moments of silence.” You guys talk to each other a lot.

On X (formerly Twitter), Soulo earlier commented on his close friend Kendrick Lamar’s fight with Drizzy, saying: “This was not a rap battle.” Scripture was involved.

“If Drake is the MC I imagine he can be,” he said, endorsing Drake’s recovery from the loss. There is yet hope for redemption. “MC” is the key word.

The Black Hippy subsequently clarified his stance, saying, “But before my tirade gets out of context.” On certain rap shyt, he could never get along with the Gang’Nem. There was never any doubt about that. We might still be able to “potentially” match “artistry.” (Taking away my blatant educational and personal prejudice.)
