At AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul defeated the 58-year-old legend via unanimous decision on Saturday, ending Mike Tyson’s contentious comeback to the sport.
Over the course of the eight-round fight, Tyson only managed a few big punches, while Paul, 27, used his quickness and movement to dominate the fight. The judges’ scores of 80-72, 79-73, and 79-73 clearly favored Paul in the fight.
Early on, especially in the third round, when a barrage of blows left the former undisputed heavyweight champion clearly distressed, Paul placed Tyson under pressure.
Tyson smacked Paul in exasperation after Paul failed to deliver the knockout he had confidently promised during Thursday’s contentious weigh-in.
The bout was clearly depicted by the statistics: Paul landed 78 of 278 punches, whereas Tyson only landed 18 of 97. Paul honored Tyson in the closing seconds, bowing respectfully as the clock ran out, despite the contest’s lopsided outcome.
The legendary boxer found it difficult to keep up with the speed and intensity of his far younger opponent, demonstrating Tyson’s advanced age and extended break from competitive boxing.
