Former Alliance for New Nigeria presidential candidate Fela Durotoye has disclosed the terms and conditions under which he agreed to work in the APC cabinet of President Bola Tinubu.
This was said by Mr. Durotoye in a statement on Monday.
The well-known motivational speaker said that he worked until March 2024 without pay or benefits after being named Mr. Tinubu’s senior special assistant on national values and social justice in October 2023.
“When I received an invitation to serve in this administration, I stated that I would prefer not to be paid by the government since I saw this as my duty to my country.
“I eventually agreed to the position in October 2023, but only on the proviso that I would not be paid or given any benefits. I did not accept any government cash for my service, maintenance, or expenses during my six-month tenure.
“I drove my own car to Abuja and rented my flat. I paid for my own fuel, utilities, and maintenance, and I never asked the government to pay me for any costs I incurred. “My family and I paid for everything I contributed, including time, effort, and resources,” Mr. Durotoye stated.
Following the release of a 13-person list that went viral on social media on Friday, which included his name as one of Mr. Tinubu’s media aides, Mr. Durotoye provided an explanation.
“Just to be clear, I was a six-month Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Values and Social Justice (SSA-NVSJ) from October 2023 to March 2024,” Mr. Durotoye stated. “Overgeneralization is a common tendency of social commentary, as is the case with many other topics in public discourse; broad assumptions can occasionally result in misconceptions, misstatements, and misinformation.”
“One of these mistakes is in a recent case study about the president’s current media team that went viral on social media, where my name was listed as one of the president’s media aides,” he continued. Regretfully, this statement needs to be revised to appropriately represent the president’s current media team.
