The Nigeria Customs Service has stated that it is prepared to carry out the federal government’s decision to suspend import taxes and tariffs on necessities in order to alleviate the prevalent hunger in the nation.
This was revealed by its comptroller-general, Bashir Adeniyi, in a video posted on the NCS official X feed on Monday, a few days before the countrywide #EndBadGovernance demonstration gets underway.
Mr. Adeniyi acknowledged the economic difficulties facing the nation and stated that the suspension will lower the cost of food for Nigerians.
“All nations, including Nigeria, are being affected by global inflation,” he declared. In order to solve this, import taxes and levies on necessities are being suspended by the federal government through the Nigeria Customs Service, making them more reasonably priced.
“We are dedicated to executing this policy with efficiency in order to tackle the issue of hunger in our country. To guarantee that Nigerian commodities are effectively sold in foreign markets, we have reduced the export procedures.
The head of customs issued a warning, stating that supply chain hiccups will impact foreign investments, skew trade, encourage instability, raise scarcity, and make it more difficult to collect taxes.
