Governor Dapo Abiodun has asked for patience in the face of criticism over his government’s neglect of poor Ogun state roads, claiming that eight years is insufficient time to repair the state’s roadways.
“I’d like to ask our folks to be patient with us. “We cannot fix all of the bad roads in three years,” Mr Abiodun told reporters on Monday. “In fact, no administration can reconstruct all the roads in Ogun State, not even in 8 years.”
Mr Abiodun has served as governor for five years, following winning the governorship election in 2019. Following widespread public criticism of his administration last week, the governor issued an appeal and announced plans to fix some of the state’s terrible roads.
With the #Dapofixogunroads trend, netizens dragged Mr Abiodun, pushing him to focus on mending Ogun’s terrible roads rather than squandering resources on a showy lifestyle.
In recent days, excessive rains have left highways in Mr Abiodun’s state in disrepair, prompting some commuters to vent their dissatisfaction as they utilize the road.
Footage posted on social media showed cars with broken down automobiles, as well as walkers nearly half swallowed in highly flooded roadways caused by massive potholes and a lack of drainage channels.
