MTV announced on Monday, August 12, that the 2024 Video Music Awards will take place on September 11, one day later than scheduled. This adjustment appears to have been made to avoid conflicting with Kamala Harris and Donald Trump’s U.S. presidential debate. Additionally, the network unveiled the first round of artists for the evening.

GloRilla, the lone Hip Hop performer, is scheduled to go on stage. She joins a cast of pop singers that includes Chappell Roan, Sabrina Carpenter, and Camila Cabello. Notably, it will be the rapper from Memphis’ first time performing at the awards ceremony.

Rap-Up has previously revealed that the rapper is up for three nominations: Best Hip Hop for “Yeah Glo!”, Best Collaboration for “Wanna Be” with Megan Thee Stallion, and Best PUSH Performance of the Year for her live performance of “Lick or Sum.”

In August, GloRilla wrapped off her tour as Megan’s opening act on her “Hot Girl Summer Tour” in North America. When the two got back together, they performed “Wanna Be” at the 2024 BET Awards. It was their first time working again and peaked at No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100. The images that go with it have received over 65 million views on YouTube as of the time of publication.

The Ehhthang Ehhthang star ruled the radio in February with “Yeah Glo!” before the record’s popularity. “I wrote the song for me, but everyone else improved it tenfold by taking it and making it their own. She told Rolling Stone, “The song is full of affirmations for me, but I’m thrilled that other people got to make it for them, too.

GloRilla released her contender for a summer song, “TGIF,” in June. Since then, Rihanna and Victoria Moneʁt have backed the song; the latter danced to it at the 2024 ESSENCE Festival…

At the VMAs, Kendrick Lamar, Travis Scott, Drake, Doja Cat, Jack Harlow, and Gunna are among the other candidates in the Hip Hop category.
