Funke Akindele’s newest film, Everybody Loves Jenifa, has shattered Nigerian box office records after earning over N1bn in just 19 days since its debut.

The entertainment firm, Film One, shared the news on Instagram on Monday, calling Akindele’s achievement a significant moment for the Nigerian film sector.

The announcement disclosed that Everybody Loves Jenifa, which debuted in theaters on December 11, is the second film within a year to exceed the N1bn threshold, after Akindele’s other blockbuster, A Tribe of Judah.

In its post, Film One emphasized that the film accomplished this milestone in record time, establishing Akindele as Nigeria’s top-grossing producer and director.

“This is a huge victory! 🏆 1 Billion Crew!” Thank you, Nigeria and Ghana, for viewing and backing this film! “This film has earned more than 1 Billion at the box office!” the post states.

Additionally, the Nigerian Box Office announced on its X (formerly Twitter) account that the film earned N250m over the weekend, raising its total revenue to N1.035bn.

Everybody Loves Jenifa was acknowledged as the highest-grossing film on its opening day in Nollywood history, generating N45.2m from 9,409 ticket sales.

Commenting on the accomplishment on her X account, Akindele, 47, conveyed her appreciation to her supporters in Nigeria and Ghana for their backing.

She also urged viewers around the globe to keep viewing the film. “Thanks to everyone for turning this into reality.” “Continue to watch and spread the love,” she wrote.

THE WHISTLER noted that the film generated $100,000 in box office earnings from the diaspora in its first week.

The film belongs to the Jenifa franchise that began in 2008.

The film features a star-studded ensemble with Layi Wasabi, Nancy Isime, Jackie Appiah, Falz, Omowunmi Dada, Chimezie Imo, Patience Ozokwor, and Stan Nze, among others.
