Governor of Rivers State Siminalayi Fubara has stated that he is holding back on certain things because of how much he values his political backer.
In response to people who were labeling him as an unappreciative politician following the disagreement between him and Nyesom Wike, the former state governor who is currently the FCT Minister, the governor was responding. Governor Fubara made this statement on Monday at Government House in Port Harcourt while hosting the Ikwerre Ethnic Nationality Stakeholders on a courtesy visit. Those in attendance were the Supreme Council of Ikwerre Traditional Rulers, the leadership of Ogbakor Ikwerre Cultural Organization Worldwide, and others.
Wike’s ethnic group is the Ikwerre Ethnic Group, which is composed of the four Local Government Areas of Port Harcourt, Obio/Akpor, Emoji, and Ikwerre. Governor Fubara promised that he will continue to treat individuals with respect for who they are, regardless of the political developments in the state.
The explanation was given after Barrister Emmanuel Frank-Fubara was sworn in on Monday after being vetted and approved as a commissioner by the assembly chaired by Victor Oko-Jumbo. Around five o’clock in the evening, the swearing ceremony took place in the Executive Council Chambers of the Government House in Port Harcourt.
Following the oath-taking ceremony, Governor Fubara delivered his speech and justified his decision to recognize the assembly led by Oko-Jumbo, stating that it is the legitimate legislative branch. However, Governor Fubara expressed his dissatisfaction with the police for not going far enough in obtaining information regarding the bomb explosion that occurred in Port Harcourt a few weeks prior.
He asserted that because the attackers were not his followers, the pertinent authorities remained mute. “I’m curious as to why, after how many weeks, the Nigerian police are still unable to publicly address the attempt by someone—I’m not sure what his name is—to set off dynamite in front of Hotel Presidential. I haven’t heard anything,” Fubara added.
“I continue to wonder why it doesn’t occur. They will, however, argue that they ought to charge the individual for terrorism if there is any other connection to us. The governor of Rivers State recounted how some of his supporters had been detained and accused of terrorism for offenses they had not committed.
However, Fubara declared that in order to run the state, he will still rely on God’s favor and protection.
