Kendrick Lamar finally released the much awaited music video for “Not Like Us” on July 4, in honor of the Fourth of July.
In addition to celebrating Kendrick Lamar’s Compton heritage with shots taken at iconic local locations like City Hall and Tam’s Burgers, the visual endeavor included cameos from YG, Roddy Ricch, Big Hit, TDE’s Punch, and Tommy the Clown. The producer of the album, Mustard, also showed up donning a Toronto Blue Jays cap.
Lamar made a reference to Drake’s October’s Very Own (OVO) label by swinging at an owl-shaped piñata in some of the most controversial parts. The video, which ended with the bird caged and a note that “no OV-H**s were harmed during the making of this video,” essentially represented the bird’s poetic capture in the feud.
The rapper from Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers also hinted to a brand-new song at the start of the video. The clip opens with Kendrick snapping, “I am reincarnated, I was stargazing/ Life goes on, I need all my babies/ Woke up, lookin’ for the broccoli/ Hotkey, keep a horn on me, that Kamasi/ IP ownership, the blueprint is by me/ Mr. Get Off, I get off and mop feet.”

The music video came after Kendrick Lamar’s multiple-rapping performance of “Not Like Us” during his Juneteenth show, “The Pop Out — Ken & Friends.” He brought out a number of celebrities, including Steve Lacy, DJ Hed, Dr. Dre, ScHoolboy Q, Ab-Soul, G Perico, Bino Rideaux, Blxst, Dom Kennedy, and Tyler, The Creator, for the nearly four-hour show.
This has nothing to do with any song right now. Has nothing to do with the absence of back-and-forth correspondence. This precise instant has everything to do with it. Lamar stated, “That’s what this was all about, to bring us all together,” before urging harmony between the various LA communities, including the Crips, Bloods, and Pirus.
The singles “meet the grahams,” “6:16 in LA,” and “euphoria” came before “Not Like Us.” During their call and response, Drake also dropped singles including “Push Ups,” “Family Matters,” and “THE HEART PART 6.”
