Originally scheduled for release on November 22, the album will now be available via streaming sites in January 2025.
As many fans already knew, Lil Durk’s Deep Thoughts will no longer be released later this month. Fans can now anticipate hearing the rapper’s upcoming studio album on January 31, 2025, according to its pre-save page across DSPs.
Durk entered a not guilty plea in his murder-for-hire case on Thursday, November 14, at the same time as the announcement. Due to his alleged involvement in a scheme to kill rapper Quando Rondo, the Chicago native is currently facing charges of conspiracy, possession and use of guns, including a machine gun, and use of interstate facilities to commit murder-for-hire resulting in death.
Five of Durk’s Only The Family affiliates were arrested in connection with a shooting in Los Angeles in 2022, as Rap-Up reported in October. Rondo eventually lived, but Saviay’a “Lul Pab” Robinson, his cousin, tragically died. In a statement, U.S. Attorney Martin Estrada said, “The shooting happened in the open, at a gas station at a busy intersection, endangering many others in the area.”
According to police, the incident was probably a form of revenge for Rondo’s involvement in King Von’s death, with whom Durk had worked closely prior to the 2020 disaster.
This was Deep Thoughts’ second postponement; the first occurred just two weeks prior to Durk’s arrest by U.S. Marshals in Broward County, Florida. Songs like “Turn Up A Notch,” “Monitoring Me,” “Late Checkout,” which featured Hunxho, and “Opportunist” were still available on the LP at the time of publishing.
Additionally, according to ABC 7 Chicago, Durk’s trial will begin on January 7 and pre-trial hearings will take place in November and December. Given his suspected attempts to leave the nation, it is uncertain if he will be released on bond.
“Durk booked two flights from South Florida airports — one to Dubai and one to Switzerland,” FBI agent Sarah Corcoran said in October. After that, he reserved a private flight to Italy, but before he could get on it, he was arrested in Miami.
