A little more than a month remains until Ice Spice’s debut album drops, and fans of the musician are more excited than ever to get their hands on it. She released the music video for “Phat Butt” along with it on Friday, June 21. As suggested by the title, the song is a tribute to her voluptuous rear end and is maybe one of the most poetic things the Bronx native has ever released for her admirers.

A few days prior to its release, the song was streamed, and many listeners compared it to Nicki Minaj’s flow. The second verse, “Bches stay on my Pauly D, send ’em back home like the cab’s here/ Sold half a milli’ on a mixtape/ Probably more on a quick tape, and it’s all real, ain’t st fake/ Never lucky, I been blessed; Queen said I’m the princess,” ironically makes reference to Ice’s mentor and frequent collaborator.

Ice spits, “Been gettin’ them big checks in a big house, havin’ rich sex/ Jamaican plug named Batman, pack smellin’ like trash cans,” at another point in the song. The lines described above seemed to be a reference to the June 5 release of Y2K!.

At first, social media users questioned why the project’s title was placed on a trash can. But Ice stepped up and, in doing so, stood up for photographer Dave LaChapelle, stating that the art direction was carried out “on purpose.” Could you speculate why?

In the meantime, there was a ton of acclaim for the record itself. “Ice fking blacked on this st,” someone said in the YouTube video’s comments section. I adore how fearless she is when channeling the Queen. “You can tell she acknowledged the criticism and feedback about her songs,” a different viewer commented. Indeed. Spice, you got this!

“This is perhaps her finest song. This is a distinct look for her,” another admirer said. They said, “I would love to hear this style again with her own bars.”
