The “proudest” event in Ice Cube’s career has been revealed, and he notes that the resistance he encountered along the way made it even more memorable.
The N.W.A. great discussed his illustrious career as a guest on the Iman Amongst Men podcast, which is hosted by former NBA player Iman Shumpert and his brother Ahrii.
To the question, “What is your proudest career accolade?” Cube said, “Wow.” In terms of writing and producing, I was kind of out of my zone on Friday. Everyone was shocked when I performed a comedy at the time because none of my songs had any humor.
We had a few humorous moments in our song, but overall it was hardcore, so people assumed I was slightly hallucinating when I said things like, ‘Damn, Ice Cube’s coming with a comedy?’
The seasoned West Coast rapper claimed that his hit song “It Was A Good Day” gave him the confidence he needed to grow on Friday.
“From ‘It Was a Good Day,’ I learned.” It was Friday in song form, in my opinion,” he continued. “It’s me stepping out of the box since everything was difficult before I did this.
“I should be able to rap about my good days too, since I’m a reality rapper.”

Although Ice Cube and Warner Bros. have been embroiled in a protracted legal battle over who owns the Friday movie franchise, Ice Cube recently provided a positive update regarding the brand’s future.
After more than 20 years of absence, the 55-year-old suggested during an interview on Sirius XM’s Flavor of the Week in June that the show would be revived.
“With Warner Bros., we finally got some traction,” he said to host Flavor Flav. “They have a new management team. When I initially started doing the first Friday and Players Club and All About the Benjamins, my buddy Mike DeLuca was working at New Line. Mike DeLuca was there and is currently the head of Warner Bros.
The Straight Outta Compton actor also provided a summary of his discussions with the studio.
What the heck is going on with Friday, I thought to myself. “Dude, let’s get this back up and running,” he said. And I felt a little uncomfortable because it had taken so long due to the demise of John Witherspoon. Tiny departed from this life. A.J. Johnson departed from us.
“Like, man, you guys keep dicking around and not doing the movie the way it needs to be done, and we keep losing people.” They want to accomplish it, but the important thing is that we shouldn’t mess with it if it can’t be done. Thus, they at last realized their mistake.
The trilogy now consists of Friday (1995), Friday After Next (2002), and Next Friday (2000). Cube disclosed last year that Warner Bros. is the owner of the character names as well as the franchise’s moniker.
