Attorney Inibehe Effiong has demanded that Wale Ajetunmobi, an advisor to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, be arrested right away for disclosing how military killed Lagos citizens during the 2020 #EndSARS demonstrations.
In a since-deleted tweet, Mr. Ajetunmobi revealed that those who broke into President Bola Tinubu’s TVC station were put to death without a trial.
Shortly after the tweet became widely shared, Mr. Sanwo-Olu suspended him.
However, Mr. Effiong stated that in addition to being suspended, Mr. Ajetunmobi need to be detained and the matter looked into.
Dear @jidesanwoolu, the Governor, The lawyer on X stated that suspending Wale Ajetunmobi as your aide does not address his concerning admission of illegal executions. “Law enforcement agencies must conduct a thorough investigation into this matter.”
“He should be taken into custody immediately,” Mr. Effiong continued. Wale openly admitted that the people responsible for the burning of the TVC News station on CMD Road in Ikosi, Lagos, were pursued and killed.
“The people wants answers now that the Lagos State Governor’s suspended aide has admitted to the murders of the suspects.
“We cannot stand a situation in which the government, government supporters, or members of the political elite carry out executions. The only constitutional body with the ability to judge someone’s guilt or innocence is the judiciary.
Mr. Ajetunmobi said that his contentious tweet was misunderstood shortly after he was suspended.
“This is my one and only answer to this false statement. As I went on to clarify in the aforementioned tweet, there was no suggestion of extrajudicial execution. Mr. Ajetunmobi asserted that the word “executed” was misused and not meant for that informal exchange.
“What was written in the entire conversation reflected personal opinion, and not the position of any authority or the entity in which I work,” Mr. Sanwo-Olu’s assistant continued. Before its publishing, the post and accompanying comments have already been removed.
