Senate President Godswill Akpabio has accused #EndBadGovernance protest organisers of plotting to “loot” during their planned nationwide demonstrations.

Speaking to the media on Monday following President Bola Tinubu’s signing of the N70,000 minimum wage bill into law, Mr. Akpabio stated, “I’d like to take this opportunity to urge those who are trying to create trouble to know that they have the right to demonstrate.”

It’s your fundamental right, he continued. The Constitution contains it. However, you have no right to cause instability in the nation. It is not appropriate to use the freedom to protest as justification for using violence.

“People who are already, well, pretty amorphous and faceless are clearly already present. It therefore indicates that people are getting ready to plunder and engage in other criminal activities.

Mr. Akpabio linked the nation’s food issue to years of widespread insecurity.

“One year of administration did not lead us to where we are today. It is the result of years and years of instability,” the Senate President said. For nearly ten years, many people were unable to visit farms and other places. The president has also risen to the challenge.

The government is pushing back against the protests, as seen by Mr. Akpabio’s remarks on the upcoming protests in response to economic challenges under Mr. Tinubu’s administration.

Vice-President Kashim Shettima had called the protest organizers and their supporters “bandits and idiots” prior to Mr. Akpabio’s remarks.
