Jude Idimogu, a former two-term congressman from Lagos, has pleaded with young Nigerians not to ignite the nation with the planned nationwide demonstration.
In an interview on Thursday in Lagos, Mr. Idimogu—who stood for Oshodi-Isolo Constituency II in the Lagos House of Assembly—made the request.
The congressman, who is also the Lagos APC’s deputy apex leader of Ndigbo, stated that young people in Nigeria need to refrain from violent protests and give President Bola Tinubu more time to turn around the country’s economy.
In his view, young people should follow the route of discussion instead of participating in any demonstration that the enemy of the country could use.
“Regardless of the situation, I want all of us to be patriotic. As far as we are aware, President Bola Tinubu had hardships prior to assuming office. He is sensitive to Nigerian suffering.
“The President is making a lot of effort to put a stop to the hardship that Nigerians are experiencing. I want to ask you to kindly intervene to rescue this country. Let this country not burn down. He pleaded with the young people of Nigeria in particular, “Let us not use our hands to destroy our country.”
In order to boost Nigeria’s economy, Mr. Idimogu urged its people to band together.
“We may be different tribes and dialects, but we are one brotherhood. We own this country because there is nowhere else that we can call home. Even though others have destroyed their nation, we must not do the same.
The politician responded, “Yet, protesting is our right, but you can meet with the government and express your opinion through other channels.”
Mr. Idimogu pleaded for the 36 state governors to back the federal government’s initiatives to address the problems facing the populace on a local level.
Yes, we are aware that there is starvation in the country. Because the people are not smiling, all 36 state governors ought to reverse course and show greater patriotism for this nation.
“Hunger exists, but we cannot allow our nation to burn. I wish to encourage the young people to relax. It is our duty to preserve our nation,” Mr. Idimogu continued.
According to rumors, angry Nigerians are preparing a national protest starting on August 1 in response to the country’s growing living expenses and financial struggles.
