Eminem is competing with Kendrick Lamar in several categories at the forthcoming Grammy Awards – however, the Detroit icon thinks K.Dot will win every single one.
Em and his longtime manager Paul Rosenberg chatted with DJ Whoo Kid on Shade 45 in celebration of the Sirius XM channel’s 20th anniversary on Christmas Eve (December 24), and they discussed the subject of the award show.
“I mean, the competition is quite intense,” Em said cheerfully. “Kendrick’s about to take all of that.” “He’s going to do it and he ought to.”
Kendrick earned seven nominations for the event happening on February 2, competing with Em in two of his three nominations, specifically in Best Music Video and Best Rap Performance categories.
A longtime admirer of Kendrick Lamar, Eminem had previously showered accolades on K. Dot before they took the stage together at the Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show in 2022.
When Sway Calloway inquired if he believes Kendrick is “the most electrifying vocalist of this generation,” Em responded, “I definitely would agree.” Kendrick ranks among the very best, elite lyricists — not only of this generation but in all history.
In 2015, the Detroit icon shared with The New York Times: “I admire Kendrick Lamar.” The manner in which he assembles albums — from beginning to end, they resemble works of art.
Eminem highly values Kendrick’s 2012 album good kid, m.A.A.d city, stating to Genius, “When I first listened to Kendrick’s debut on Aftermath, I was in disbelief.” “It was his first authentic album, and the way he crafted it into a narrative that blends with the skits was brilliant.”
He remarked, “That hasn’t actually occurred very often, especially not during someone’s initial attempt. “The quality of the wordplay, the performances, the rhythms — it’s simply a work of art.”
The duo teamed up for “Love Game” on Em’s 2013 album The Marshall Mathers LP 2, though they haven’t worked together again since.
