Eminem has once more praised one of his Hip Hop idols, Redman, after the launch of his new album Muddy Waters Too.
Always vocal in honoring those who paved the way, the Detroit native took to social media this past weekend to mark the release of the eagerly anticipated sequel to Reggie’s iconic 1996 album.
“One of my favorite rappers of all time [goat emojis] … I’ve been looking forward to this @therealredman #muddywaters,” Em posted on X (formerly Twitter).
Although Redman has not yet commented on the accolades, he did share Em’s tweet again.
Launched on December 24, Muddy Waters Too consists of an impressive 32 tracks and showcases a significant lineup of rap icons.
The album features collaborations with longtime partner Method Man, along with Snoop Dogg, KRS-One, Faith Evans, Sheek Louch, and Kid Capri.
Additionally, there’s a completely fresh posse cut from New Jersey that includes Queen Latifah, Shaquille O’Neal, Naughty By Nature, Rah Digga, Lords of the Underground, and the Artifacts, among others.
Eminem has openly expressed his admiration for Redman throughout the years, notably listing him as one of his favorite MCs in his 2002 track “‘Till I Collapse.”
“I have a list, and here’s the sequence of my lineup / It includes: Reggie, JAY-Z, 2Pac and Biggie / André from OutKast, Jada, Kurupt, Nas, and then me,” he rapped.
Last year, Em was seen donning a T-shirt that alluded to his legendary verses — leading to a reaction from the ex-Def Squad rapper who was marketing the shirts in partnership with the NYC skate shop Richmond Hood.
“My younger brother @eminem continues to represent and has his IT GOES REGGIE TEE!” he posted on Instagram. “EXCLUSIVELY at www.Richmondhood.com. @richmondhoodco.” If it doesn’t have the Yellow Tag, it’s a COUNTERFEIT!! “Mess with the ORIGINALS.”
Eminem had also discussed his enduring respect for Redman in a conversation with him back in 2015.
“I was tidying up my closet, no pun intended, and stumbled upon this old photo,” he mentioned on Shade 45 radio. “I was thinking, ‘What the hell is this?” Oh no. I remembered that on my initial trip to New York, we traveled to Jersey [and] I went with Bizarre to record with the Outsidaz.
“I’m not sure who else was in the car with us, but I do recall that Pace [Won] was there, and we ended up visiting your house.” So I’m thinking, ‘Oh no. That’s the photo I snapped from your house’s back window on some fan stuff. It felt like, ‘Wow, that’s Redman’s place!’”
Redman responded: “You’re also one of my top artists.” Continue with your current path, and you have my backing right here, brother.”
