Shehu Mohammed, the corps marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, has ordered an immediate crackdown on the spread of phony diplomatic and other unauthorized license plates.
On Tuesday, Mr. Mohammed made this announcement in a statement.
The head of the FRSC stated that the decision was now required in accordance with his administration’s proactive strategy for improving national security.
He claimed that as these identified number plates were not issued by state motor licensing authorities or manufactured by any of the FRSC’s production facilities nationwide, they were fraudulently fabricated by suspected criminals.
“The following inscriptions are among the fake and unapproved number plates that have been identified,” he said: “DIPLOMATIC NUMBER PLATES, NYCN, PEACE AMBASSADOR, NAUS, CYMS, UN-UNITY 01, UN-AMB, NANS, among others.”
As a result, the FRSC chief gave his approval for tactical enforcement to start right away in all corps formations.
According to him, this was done to guarantee that all cars on Nigerian roads with the recognized bogus license plates would be quickly arrested and impounded.
The FRSC statement read, “The public is hereby cautioned by this notice that these fake and unauthorised number plates are primarily used for nefarious and criminal activities.” “This publication warns members of the public who are currently using such vehicle identifications to stop using these phony and unauthorized plates immediately, as defaulters will face legal action.”
The FRSC will work with other security authorities to identify the origins of the phony license plates so that they can be apprehended and prosecuted, he added.
