Drake has a reputation for letting his hair serve as a marker for his musical phases. Drake posted a selfie sans his trademark waves and with a new fade on his Instagram story. Men who recently chopped their longer hair frequently have to gradually re-establish their waves. The photo was taken to celebrate winning nearly $950,000 in a wager following Jon “Bones” Jones’ victory over Stipe Miocic. He posted a picture of DeVante Swing, a member of the well-known R&B group Jodeci from the 1990s, shortly after the selfie. This is a reference to Drake and J. Cole’s popular B-side song, “Jodeci Freestyle.”
He raps, “Before you come to my city, just know yourself,” on the song. The lights struck women yelling like Jodeci’s back, n**ga. I know where you are. I’m good in every place. I’m going to be there doing gigs where you are.
These lines were spoken before Dennis Graham, his father, interrupted to say, “That’s where all that garbage comes from. I remember you adored Jodeci, and you even made me a CD. The music you and I used to listen to, dude, was just../ Absolutely wonderful, since we went through everything.
Would Drake’s hair cut and display of affection for Jodeci hint at the full-scale return of R&B Drizzy? Drake’s upcoming collaboration with PARTYNEXTDOOR, which would be his third album with another artist, has many fans thrilled. This one is likely to be his most R&B-leaning album yet, following his predominantly Hip Hop collaborations with Future on What A Time To Be Alive and 21 Savage on Her Loss.
