Drake seems to be unable to get lucky. The rapper released a video on Tuesday, July 16, showing him trying to remain positive despite floods at his Toronto home.
“This better be espresso martini,” the Canadian rapper said in the description of one of his Instagram Stories posts. In the little video, a man dressed all in black was seen straining to keep the filthy water from pouring into the room beyond the French doors of the residence.
Then Drake panned the camera to reveal his feet, which were in the water until they were mid-calves. People on social media expressed amusement at the occurrence, with one commenting, “Hey Siri, play ‘Swimming Pools’ by Kendrick Lamar,” alluding to the musician’s feud with the Compton MC.
Another person referenced Kendrick Lamar’s song “Not Like Us” by changing the lyrics to something like “Certified waterslide, certified waterboy / Mop, mop, mop, Drake, mop it up.” Rick Ross responded with a simple “Minor issues.”
Drake didn’t say where he went, but his hometown of Toronto was experiencing severe weather that caused major floods and left over 167,000 people without power, according to the BBC. Meteorologist Dave Phillips told the local TV station CP24, “We had 25 percent more rain in three hours than we’d [normally have] in the whole month of July with all the thunderstorms and systems that moved through.”
The “Hotline Bling” singer experienced several incidents near his Toronto residence, known as “The Embassy,” earlier in the year. Drake’s security was transported to the hospital in May following an early-morning gunfire. In the meantime, that same month saw two attempts at breaking in. The Ontario Mental Health Act allowed for the first invader’s detention; the second intruder was not given the same freedom.
Notably, “Meet the Grahams” features lyrics like “The Embassy ’bout to get raided too, it’s only a matter of time,” while the cover art for “Not Like Us” features a satellite shot of the house.
