Drake made appearances on Gordo’s “Sideways” and “Healing” earlier in the month. The Toronto native claims, nevertheless, that he was involved in more than just two of the beatmaker’s DIAMANTE LP’s tracks.
The “Hotline Bling” hitmaker criticized Gordo on Monday, July 29, on his Instagram Stories for failing to give him credit for the song “Cafecito,” which he is said to have co-produced. Nicki Nicole and Sech were featured on the pre-release version of the record, which was made available in May. With three spicily colored emojis, the Grammy Award winner said, “I made this beat with you, but it’s all good.”
Drake’s remarks probably wasn’t meant to be taken seriously at all, given the relationship between the rapper and producer.
“I recall sneaking into his show once when I was younger,” Gordo said when asked about how he and the creator of Views initially met in a sit-down with People. “I was friends with people who were his tour managers or somehow associated with him, so I would see him occasionally, snap a quick picture here and there, but nothing more,” he continued. After that, we bonded, and gradually, we grew really close.
Notably, the two collaborated on the 2022 singles “Tie That Binds,” “Sticky,” “Currents,” and “Calling My Name.” To be honest, forget about it. Additionally, Gordo produced the songs “Gently” and “Rich Baby Daddy” on For All The Dogs, which featured SZA and Sexyy Red.
Additionally, Gordo disclosed to People that “Tie That Binds” was originally scheduled to air on DIAMANTE. “I was afraid to bring up my music one night when we were driving back from the club and [Drake] was inebriated,” he said. “I was like, ‘Yo, can I play you a song I’m working on?'” on our 20-minute journey home. He said, “Yeah.” The song starts playing, and at that point he was like, “What? Is this how you’re producing house music? After that, I offered him a song I was working on.
