Ab-Soul ignited a conversation on Tuesday, July 9, regarding Drake’s chances of making a return after his lyrical sparring match with Kendrick Lamar. Through Twitter, the rapper from Top Dawg Entertainment shared his thoughts, arguing that a comeback for the “One Dance” hitmaker is feasible but dependent on one important element.”
Redemption is not off the table if Drake is the MC I imagine he can be,” Ab-Soul wrote on social media. Regarding comparisons between the Toronto rapper and other Black Hippy members, such as Lamar, ScHoolboy Q, and Jay Rock, he also established boundaries. The HERBERT creator continued, “But before my rant gets out of context. He could never [f**k with the] gang [and them] on [some] rap s**t. That was never a question.”
A second tweet from Ab-Soul said, “PS: ‘Where [are] the true artists at? If it ain’t a good picture you draw, don’t bring it to the architect.'” “If this is taken as antic of any sort and not ISM. Well.. get off if you [are] mad then. Dead homies.”
The native of Southern California appeared in Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” music video on July 4th, along with other West Coast celebrities Punch, Mustard, YG, and Roddy Ricch. With 38 million views on YouTube thus far, the movie has reportedly increased sales for Tam’s Burgers, one of the highlighted locations, by 40%, according to TMZ.
In a 2012 interview with Complex, Lamar made reference to Tam’s, saying, “Everyone loves In-N-Out, but it’s a very clean-cut burger.” Tam’s offers street-sloppy shakes and burgers. Although it’s a chain, hood still exists.
Interestingly enough, amid his spat with Drake, the Compton poet supported more than one establishment. A reference to the Chinese restaurant New Ho King in Toronto was made during April’s “euphoria”: “I be at New Ho King eatin’ fried rice with a dip sauce and a blammy, crodie.”
