A$AP Don’t Be Dumb, Rocky’s upcoming album, will no longer be published on August 30 due to yet another delay.
The revelation that the eagerly anticipated project has been pushed back until the fall was revealed in Billboard’s recent cover story on the Harlem rapper.
Though a new release date is still unknown, Pretty Flacko did discuss the lengthy wait for his fourth album and blamed leakers for it.
“I’ve been working on music for six years now, but every time my music gets leaked, I just say ‘Fuck it,'” he stated. “They destroy the music by leaking a lot of it. similar to my “Taylor Swift” clip. I was so upset about it that I never released it.”
Additionally, the article provides some context for Don’t Be Dumb: “Although he has only been working on it for a year, he feels that it’s the best album he’s ever made, as do most artists when talking about their new work.”
“Don’t Be Dumb goes deeper and skews slightly heavier topically than Rocky’s usual vainglorious works,” the statement goes on. The 35-year-old jack-of-all-that’s-fly attributes this to being older and wiser (“I’m an OG now”) as well as the current state of the world being insane.
“Shroom Cloud,” a somber and experimental track that explores “current affairs and world wars and, you know, the world dying and whatnot,” is one of the first songs he recorded for the album.
A$AP The album, according to Rocky, is “grim” and a mash-up of “German expressionism [and] ghetto futurism.” He also disclosed that he was working on the project for renowned director Tim Burton, whom he had made an unsuccessful attempt to hire for the cover art.
The father of two claimed, “I sat and I played the album for Tim Burton, and he was fucking with it heavy.” “He was shaking his head and exclaiming, ‘Whoa! I had no idea you were a musician of such caliber.
Rocky did, however, succeed in getting Danny Elfman to provide music, even on a song that The Alchemist produced.
Metro Boomin, Tyler, The Creator, Pharrell, Madlib, and Mike Dean are among the other well-known producers who are anticipated to contribute to the album.
Don’t Be Dumb is A$AP Rocky’s first album in six years and a follow-up to his third album Testing, which was released in 2018 to varying reviews.
