The song initially debuted on Doechii’s Grammy-nominated mixtape, ‘Alligator Bites Never Heal.’

Doechii’s visual partner for “DENIAL IS A RIVER” has finally arrived. On Thursday (Jan. 2), the Swamp Princess released the highly anticipated gift following many parodies and celebrity-filled performances.

In the version directed by Carlos Acosta and James Mackel, Zack Fox played the notorious “old dude from 2019.” The video features Doechii nervously walking around the kitchen, only to find the comedian and actor kissing internet personality Rickey Thompson — completely aligning with the record’s “turns out the girl was actually a dude?” narrative twist.

Shortly after, labelmate SiR, DJ Miss Milan, Teezo Touchdown, and H Wood made appearances in a house party sequence that comically concluded with Doechii ejecting everyone. The video subsequently offered audiences some behind-the-scenes footage, featuring the camera tracking her on set as she drank and wiped her nose, referencing the third verse: “I mean, fk, I like pills, I like drugs/ I like gettin’ money, I like strippers, I like to fk/ I like day-drinkin’ and day parties in Hollywood.”

Doechii has confirmed she will host a “Denial Is A Stream” broadcast at 6 p.m. ET. She referred to the spectacle as the “fking most amazing event that’s ever occurred on planet Earth.” With exciting games, special guests, and unexpected surprises, the artist humorously cautioned fans that if they didn’t tune in, she’d “creep into your room and fking kill you.”

The “Denial Is A River” music video marked a continuation of Doechii’s rapid ascent in 2024, simultaneously launching 2025 with excitement. She’s up for Best New Artist at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards, which will be broadcast on Feb. 2 from Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. Furthermore, the Top Dawg Entertainment artist’s “NISSAN ALTIMA” is vying for Best Rap Performance, while Alligator Bites Never Heal is nominated for Best Rap Album.

Although it was marketed as a mixtape, the project was certainly one of the most remarkable works of last year. Throughout the 19-track project, Doechii celebrated her southern heritage with “BOILED PEANUTS,” collaborated with KUNTFETISH on “GTFO,” and skillfully referenced Kendrick Lamar’s popular “Get Top on the phone” lyric in “BOOM BAP.”
