Ademola Abbas, the Director of Administration at The Progressive Institute, claims that the policies launched by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu demonstrate a leader who is bold and courageous, having made crucial decisions for the nation.

He, consequently, expressed that the latest influx of defections to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is not unexpected.

During an appearance on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Thursday, Abbas, a professor, stated that Tinubu had shown the kind of bravery and political determination essential for making tough yet essential choices.

“Regardless of your feelings toward him or his policies, he has shown bravery in making several daring decisions and implementing bold policies.”

“These policies and decisions are ones that individuals lacking courage and genuine concern for their country would not pursue,” he stated.

“I’m not claiming President Asiwaju is perfect; there are no perfect beings among humans, but concerning politics, he has validated the confidence I shared on television earlier, showing he is bold and courageous, qualities we need in Nigeria’s leaders today,” he stated

Abbas remarked that the increasing defections to the ruling APC are a typical aspect of Nigeria’s political landscape.

He observed that politicians frequently align themselves with leaders whose policies they favor, even when crossing party boundaries.

“I may be part of the PDP now or the Labour Party or the APC, but nothing prevents me from observing another party and thinking this individual is doing what I would support him in if I were in his party.” “Don’t be astonished that numerous governors will be joining the APC,” he stated.

He stated that true leaders must place nation-building above loyalty to their party. “As a governor, if you notice that even if you don’t like the individual in power, but you appreciate his policies and principles, and you conclude that ‘if I ally with this person, we could create a more robust country,’ why wouldn’t I back him?”

Abbas noted that some critics of the president’s reforms are people who gained from Nigeria’s previous economic excesses.

“Nigerians have been living beyond our financial capabilities.” At one time, we imported toothpicks, and individuals were stockpiling dollars.

“We required all those matters to be managed by someone who is brave and not easily sidetracked.” A lot of those yelling now are failures who have brought the country to this state,” he stated.

Additionally, Abbas clarified that the Nigerian Constitution does not specifically forbid a one-party system.

“There is no clause in the Nigerian Constitution that prohibits Nigeria from being a one-party state.” The sole assurance against it is Section 68(1)(g), which addresses carpet crossing.

“Thus, that implies you need a minimum of two parties to enable carpet crossing,” he contended.

His remark follows the switch of Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, to the All Progressives Congress (APC), and the departure of his Bayelsa counterpart, Douye Diri, from the Peoples Democratic Party.

The recent departures have additionally diminished the opposition party before the 2027 general elections
