Dr. Bassey Okon, the Commissioner for Special Duties, was fired by Pastor Umo Eno, the governor of Akwa Ibom State, on Monday.
The commissioner’s appointment was revoked, but no explanation was provided in a statement signed by State Government Secretary Enobong Uwah. Instead, Okon was instructed to turn over all government property to the permanent secretary of the ministry. According to Uwah, the secretary of the state government would manage the ministry’s operations until a new commissioner is appointed.
The statement wished the commissioner luck in his future endeavors and expressed gratitude for his time on the state executive council. A portion of the announcement stated, “The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Umo Eno, has relieved Dr. Bassey Okon, Commissioner for Special Duties, as Commissioner in the Akwa Ibom Executive Council with immediate effect as part of an ongoing effort to reposition this administration in line with the ARISE Agenda.”
