Lessi Gborogbosi, the Action People’s Party’s (APP) candidate for governor of Rivers State in 2023, has received advice from the Pro-Democracy Coalition of Nigeria to give up on his aspirations to become governor by 2027.

The group added in a statement issued by Comrade Jack Thomas, the group’s president, that Gborogbosi need to wake up from his fantasy of taking over as governor of Siminalayi Fubara in 2027.

According to the group, the Rivers people are still in the honeymoon phase of their marriage to Fubara because of his current performance and have no plans to call it quits anytime soon.

The press release from Dr. Lessi Gborogbosi, who identified himself as the new governor of Rivers State, was read by the group. It was released in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

“The statement that has been printed in many national daily is nothing more than a product of Gborogbosi’s imagination. It appears that he is unaware of the enormous steps taken by Governor Fubara that have resulted in the honeymoon between the governor and the people of Rivers State.

“As a group that supports democracy, we should explain to Gborogbosi why Fubara cannot turn over power to him in 2027.

Fubara invested more than half a trillion Naira in vital infrastructure in Rivers State in less than a year.
These consist of the Omoku, Kalabari, and Port Harcourt Ring Roads. Numerous of these projects have started and are at varying states of completion.

The Ogoni-Andoni-Opobo unity road project was officially launched a few days ago. The project was started by Peter Odili, the previous governor of Rivers State, who resigned from office in May 2007.

“The Elele-Omoku road project, which will cross three local government areas of the State: Ikwerre, Emohua, and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni, has received approval from the Rivers State Executive Council for N80 billion.

“The Fubara administration has distributed N4 billion to companies in the nano sector and the small and medium enterprise subsector, ranging from N400,000 to N10 million each, through the Rivers State Micro Finance Agency (RIMA), in collaboration with and with the technical support of Nigeria’s Bank of Industry (BoI).

“Under Fubara, Rivers State’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) has also increased to N27 billion per month from the N12 billion it was when he took office. This indicates a growth of more than 100%.

In addition to catching up on unpaid pension arrears and promotions, the Fubara government plans to hire 10,000 new employees in the state civil service.

“The covalent bond between the governor and the people of Rivers State cannot be broken in 2027, despite the enormous distraction caused by enemies of Rivers State,” said Governor Fubara, “given his monumental achievements in less than a year.”

“The Rivers people are not eager to end their honeymoon with Fubara in 2027, as Gborogbosi must be informed.”
