The Detroit rapper shared in a project update that if fans loved the first one, they will love this one too.
Concluding a huge year with the launch of his sixth album and revealing his debut book, Big Sean promises there is plenty more to come. During an interview with Complex released on Tuesday (Nov. 26), the rapper revealed that he is already planning his next album and is also working on a follow-up to TWENTY88 for fans of his collaboration with Jhené Aiko.
Big Sean informed the publication that he has focused solely on the second one and is refusing to reveal any more information. Regarding his current feelings about the incomplete sequel, he also mentioned, “I am confident in it… If fans enjoyed the original, they will enjoy this one as well.” I’m not aware of the specific time it will arrive.
TWENTY88, which came out in 2016, is undeniably one of the top Hip Hop-R&B collaborations of the decade. DSPs were impacted by songs such as “Déjà Vu,” “On the Way,” and “Selfish,” before Big Sean and Aiko starred in the short sci-fi film Out Of Love, depicting alternate-reality versions of themselves.
In 2022, Aiko mentioned to Billboard that when it came to the sequel, both she and her partner enjoyed portraying characters in the original TWENTY88, as they both have a passion for acting and watching movies. Anticipate more dramatics in the upcoming performance.
From that time onward, they have worked together on “Moments” and “None Of Your Concern” for Aiko’s Trip and Chilombo albums, respectively. The vocalist from California also contributed her vocals to “Body Language,” a track on Big Sean’s Detroit 2 album featuring Ty Dolla Sign.
Apart from “Sun/Son” and “guidance,” Aiko hasn’t released many new songs for fans. Nonetheless, she began her “The Magic Hour Tour” in June with the support of Coi Leray, Tink, UMI and Kiana Ledé. The journey is set to conclude in December, with new destinations now added such as Toronto, Baltimore, Miami, and Memphis.
Big Sean’s album Better Me Than You was released in August, following some delays and leaks. The album demonstrated his increased level of commitment and highlighted the skills of artists such as Gunna, Kodak Black, Bryson Tiller, and others. In his interview with Complex, the artist from Detroit shared that he is currently in the process of working on his upcoming project. He mentioned, “I have a clear idea of what I want to do next and also what I have planned after that. The challenge now is to schedule time to complete it.”
