On the 21-track album, the Detroit rapper revealed his true self.
Big Sean released his highly anticipated album Better Me Than You on Friday, August 30, at midnight.
“Pressure (Intro),” the first track on the 21-song album, had multiple narrators discussing Sean’s seeming hiatus from music releases. “Dog, the city needs you.” One person called out, “Come on, man. They say you haven’t been to the city in over a year.” Another added, “Them n**gas say that.” In response, the Detroit native declared he was “back to the basics, back to the work” on the following song, “Iconic.”
The songs “It Is What It Is,” “This N That,” which features Bryson Tiller and Kodak Black, “Who You Are (Superstar),” and “Break The Cycle,” which features Charlie Wilson’s vocals, are among the project’s standout tracks. Eryn Allen Kane, Cash Cobain, Syd, NASAAN, Teyana Taylor, Larry June, Thundercat, and DJ Premier are among the other guests that have appeared.
Production-wise, Sean enlisted the help of well-known artists including BNYX, WondaGurl, and KAYTRANADA in addition to former partners Teddy Walton and Hit-Boy.

“It felt like the right time to release the album because I’m at a place in my life where I just let things happen when they’re meant to,” Sean said to Apple Music. “I was inspired to have fun, first and foremost, but I was also inspired by just the events that were going on in my life.”
“I’m not attempting to establish my own worth. I truly want to become better,” he continued. For me, the most significant thing is growing personally and imparting that knowledge to my audience, my family, and anybody else I can.
Detroit 2 was followed in 2020 by Better Me Than You. The aforementioned project lasted a total of 12 weeks at the top of the Billboard 200, where it peaked at number one.
