Big Sean has officially clarified the meaning of the enigmatic graphs that were featured at the conclusion of the recently released trailer for his new album.
Just one day after an online version of the album was leaked, the Better Me Than You trailer was released on Thursday, July 18. The video had four pie-shaped graphs at the conclusion and was accompanied with an unreleased music with a groovy bassline, spacey synths, and pounding percussion.
Sean Don explained what they signify in a new video that was uploaded on Tuesday, July 23rd.
“I felt like I was going through the same four emotions when I was making this album,” he said. And I recall sitting down to draw a chart one day that simply expressed how I was feeling. I was thinking, “Man, I never really saw this chart before,” when I hand-drew it. In the end, I had it animated. … there are four distinct charts that correspond to four distinct moods of the record, four distinct sensations that I was experiencing personally, and four distinct feelings overall.
“First of all, I was under a lot of pressure,” he said. However, going through that strain gave me clarity, which allowed me to concentrate on happiness and experience it for a little while before returning to the pressure. However, I produced these graphs, and it really helped me see the record.
Big Sean’s sixth studio album, Better Me Than You, will be released on August 9.
Sean dropped a new song called “Yes” along with the launch of the album, putting the competition on notice with its hard-hitting sound.
Before mentioning JAY-Z, he raps, “I would rather give y’all my soul, I don’t have to sell it/ Might take a piss off your rap Mount Rushmore after I scale it/ Blue strips when I do hit the strip, know we fuckin’ it up like Elvis.”
“Money talkin’ to me, like I don’t need no muthafuckin’ therapist/No broke talk, G.O.A.T. talk I brought it straight back to the crib as if there were nowhere else to put it. Hov and I were building pyramids in North Carolina at the time.
Regarding the leak, the individual who did it asserted that Sean appeared to be criticizing Kanye West in his most recent On the Radar freestyle, which led to the project’s early release.
“Here’s the album, fuck him and his whole team, since he wanna disrespect Ye so much,” the offender wrote.
Moreover, they stated, “You told me to leak it.”
The entire number of leaked files was 14, and among them were previously unheard collaborations with Sean’s girlfriend Jhené Aiko, Nas, Charlie Wilson, and The-Dream.
Although it’s unclear if Kanye was really the source of the leak, Sean responded to the uproar on social media and appeared to accept the setback.
“May as well start dropping before they leak everything, for heaven’s sake.” He shared a teaser of a new project with the renowned producer on X, writing, “Big Sean x The Alchemist soon.”
