Benzino is set to become a grandfather since Coi Leray is having a baby with Trippie Redd – yet his fractured relationship with his daughter raises questions about his involvement in the life of his grandchild.
Recently featured on the We In Miami podcast, the ex-Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta figure shared his thoughts on learning about Coi’s pregnancy and talked about his role in it.
“I’m going to be a grandparent!” “Impressive,” he remarked. “I only learned when everyone else did.” It’s going to mature her. I wish it does. Because she will finally experience what it means to be a parent. She will experience firsthand what I was dealing with.
Regarding his participation, he remarked: “Our tale, since it has been online, has always been somewhat awkward, to put it mildly.” No one truly grasped my connection with my daughter prior to her becoming a rap star. Nobody was present, no matter when her mother and I separated, no matter her living with me. Trust me, that baby will recognize its grandpa.
“It’s crucial for me to convey my message to that baby.” No matter what we’re experiencing, it has nothing to do with the grandbaby. As I mentioned, she will want him to possess those morals, values, and principles. And that’s going to be his grandfather, and you know, Trippie’s dad and his mom.”
Coi Leray revealed her pregnancy on New Year’s Day (January 1) by sharing several photos of herself on Instagram, one showing her noticeable baby bump and another featuring Trippie embracing her pregnant belly.
The “Players” artist wrote in the post: “I’m a rock star mom, we are prepared for 2025.”
The 27-year-old shared a detailed update on her Instagram Stories, featuring a close-up of her belly and the caption: “I’m over 4 months.” “I’m definitely tiny as can be, of course.”
Regarding her relationship with her father, Benzino acknowledged in a May 2024 podcast episode that they have stopped communicating.
“That’s too bad,” he remarked. “However, you see, we don’t talk very often.” Everything feels surreal to me… I’m intelligent, yet I can’t understand this.
He went on: “Coi is a young woman, she self-reliant. This younger generation prefers that their parents do not get involved in their lives, dude. I must learn to adjust to that and appreciate it. It’s not only Coi; it’s also many of my daughters. For people like me, raising daughters and figuring it all out can be challenging. “Not the simplest task.”
Coi has mentioned that she has stopped communicating with her father following his remarks about R. Kelly.
“Everyone merits another opportunity,” he stated when questioned about the disgraced musician. “The legal age is 16 years, so does that mean it’s acceptable if a person does it — yes or no?”
“Why in the world is R. Kelly serving all this time?” Since they are 14 and 13 — two years younger — do you really believe that those who approved it for 16-year-olds were unaware that they were also dealing with 13 and 14-year-olds?
“To establish a law for such a young age, it’s clear they’re already facing consequences.” I’m not endorsing guys messing around with young girls — it’s disgusting, okay, it’s disgusting, it’s disgusting — but I don’t believe R. Kelly should be imprisoned for 30 years either.”
Although it’s not the first instance of a public fallout between the father and daughter, after those remarks, Leray expressed that she no longer desires any connection with Zino.
On May 1, she posted on X: “I want everyone to understand that I want no involvement with anything my father is involved in.” I haven’t talked to him in more than a year, and I don’t support or admire any of those
