Benny The Butcher has devoted a few bars from a new song to fans who believe J. Cole dissed him during a 2022 duet.
On the tune “The Blue Building,” which features on his latest album Summertime Butch, the Buffalo, NY MC dismisses the notion that Cole’s guest verse on the Tana Talk 4 song “Johnny P’s Caddy” included a subtle dig at Butch himself.
“Trolls say I got dissed by Cole on my record/I’m like, ‘Is y’all slow?’ “That’s my na,” the Griselda rapper says. “We having hour-long conversations from home / I’m picking his brain on my way to the throne, I ain’t no dumb na / I ain’t get here focusing on figures alone, I played more of the distributor role / He told me, ‘Butch, if you see yourself winning, you got a vision to throw.'”

Benny The Butcher announced on social media barely two weeks ago that Summertime Butch would be released on August 9, with the promise of one more drop in 2024.
“I told you I’m dropping three times this year…””Streets need something!!!” he captioned an Instagram image featuring the cover of the upcoming album. “Just because I love you all and summer isn’t finished yet. AUG 9TH ‘SummerTime Butch’ A Whole Project SURPRISE MF’s. Tell them I said THE BUTCHER COMIN!!! “Get ready for 8/9.”
Summertime Butch follows in the footsteps of Benny’s January 2024 publication, Everybody Can’t Go. Along with Griselda mainstays Armani Caesar, Westside Gunn, and Conway The Machine, that project boasts guest appearances from Lil Wayne, Snoop Dogg, Stove God Cooks, Jadakiss, Babyface Ray, and more.
“The 12-cut package is a combination of beautifully digitized beats and elegant mechanical instrumentation, further processed to synthesize hard-headed mafioso bars,” Karan Singh wrote at the time.
Lyrically, Everybody Can’t Go is the most recent piece of empirical evidence supporting Benny The Butcher’s deft word choice; the way he tells his story opens up new interpretations even when he revisits some themes and ideas.
“A lot of the Buffalo spitter’s peers continue to struggle to maintain their identities while capturing people’s attention, but he’s carved out a niche for himself in the current scene by emulating the dominant brand of yesterday’s Hip Hop scene, making sure that fans of all ages come to his team when they’re craving it.”
