Lil Wayne has discussed his unexpected absence from the Cash Money reunion that took place over the weekend at the Essence Festival.
Weezy did not attend the Cash Money 30-year anniversary event, which featured performances by Birdman, Mannie Fresh, and fellow Hot Boys Juvenile and B.G., as he was performing at the New Orleans festival.
The “A Milli” hitmaker talked about his lack of participation and the sadness that many fans felt afterward in a long video that was posted on Instagram on Sunday, July 7.
Funny story: I received a text and was followed by someone. They said, “You wrong,” maybe because they had been at the performance for too long or something. You should have come out, you know that. Wayne, you’re wrong. Here, you had all these fucking admirers. You failed to show up. You should have, you know,” he remarked.
Wayne subsequently gave away his sly reaction to the message, stating, “I’m like, ‘What you talking about? The after-party, perhaps?
The head of Young Money gave a shout-out to “all the artists that performed” at the Essence Festival without specifically mentioning Birdman or his previous labelmates.
Though a complete Cash Money and Hot Boys reunion was anticipated for the event, the truth was a little more nuanced. After Birdman and company concluded their act, Lil Wayne had a solo performance that lasted for almost twenty minutes.
After Wayne finished his set, everyone but Juvenile came back on stage for one last song.
During his performance, Weezy also had the Young Money logo inserted in lieu of the Cash Money logo.
Juvenile spoke on social media about the event, which included the absence of former Hot Boy Turk.
He added, “You heard me? There’s only one n-gga that ain’t in this bitch.” “He caused that for himself. N-gga cannot take it back; he done a ton of crap. He began to blame himself for being absent.
Turk had earlier issued a warning, citing the “business side of it,” that he would not be performing at Essence Festival.
Even though a reunion tour and album by the Hot Boys seemed likely earlier this year, subsequent occurrences like Turk and Wayne’s withdrawal from the Cash Money performance and Juvie’s remarks regarding his former partner seem to have dashed those hopes.
In addition, Wayne recently acknowledged that, despite Juve’s claims to the contrary, he was unaware of the existence of a new Hot Boys record.
The legendary New Orleans rapper was asked about the much-rumored reunion on NFL player Cam Heywood’s Not Just Football podcast. He was taken aback and responded, “Shit, you just told me!”
Later, he refuted Juvenile’s assertions that production is underway on a Hot Boys album: “Is that what he said?” I have not yet visited the kitchen. I haven’t been in that kitchen yet, and I wouldn’t lie to you.
“It hasn’t come through the window yet, so I can’t smell it, but I don’t mind going to that kitchen.” No, I can’t smell the food. They still haven’t informed me anything.
