As Rich The Kid arrived at his record release party this week, he was served with court papers related to an outstanding claim.
When it happened on Monday, July 15, TMZ was there to document the moment on camera. The records, according to the source, are from lawyer Baruch C. Cohen on behalf of jeweler Peter Marco, who filed a $234k lawsuit against Rich in 2020 over an allegedly unpaid account.
Rich had been purchasing jewelry from Marco since 2017, according to Marco at the time of the lawsuit. The jewelry included diamond necklaces, crosses, and a few Patek Philippe watches. The jeweler claims that although Rich did make payments for a while, he eventually stopped.
According to Marco, Rich kept placing more orders and he kept filling them, so the tab grew to its current amount. Rich allegedly hasn’t paid up yet.
Rich The Kid was having a celebration for the Friday, July 19, release of his new album Life’s A Gamble. Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign executive produced the 18-track album, which features features from Ye and Ty as well as Peso Pluma, Offset, Rob49, French Montana, Chief Keef, BIA, the late TakeOff, and Quavo.
Included as well is “Carnival,” from Ye and Ty’s VULTURES album.
Fans were taken aback earlier this month by Rich The Kid’s sharing of a purportedly authentic text message from Kanye declaring his musical retirement.
Ye announced on Rich’s Instagram Story that she was leaving the music industry. Not sure what more can be done.
Rich continues, writing, “Retire?,” in an attempt to persuade him to stay. Why? In what way? People NEED you because the music you, Ty, and the rest of us have created is the biggest cultural touchstone to date (2024). Remind me of yours and V[ultures]2, and we’ll repeat the whole thing. The kids need you, big bra fasho. You might need some downtime, but retirement isn’t that bad.
But he quickly removed it, then went to X to promote the new record.
He responded with laughing emojis to a post from XXL that featured Ye’s retirement note, saying, “ACTUALLY WE DROPPING FRIDAY 7/19.”
Rich’s first album in four years will be this one. Boss Man, his final album, was released in March 2020. The project featured features from Lil Baby, DaBaby, Nicki Minaj, Post Malone, Lil Tjay, NBA YoungBoy, Quavo, and others, but it didn’t catch on and quickly fell off the charts after debuting at No. 24 on the Billboard 200.
