At the 2024 BET Awards on Sunday, June 30, Usher received the Lifetime Achievement Award in addition to winning Best Male R&B/Pop Artist. The celebration, which L.A. Reid and Babyface presented, honored the “U Got It Bad” hitmaker’s significant contribution to music.

Babyface informed him, “We couldn’t be more proud of the man you’ve become, but more importantly, the icon you’ve become.” Next, Keke Palmer entered the stage to sing “You Make Me Wanna,” following Childish Gambino’s performance of “U Don’t Have to Call.”

Summer Walker, Coco Jones, Marsha Ambrosius, Chlöe, and Tinashe were among the other performers who added their talents to the stirring homage. Their performances of “Good Good,” “There Goes My Baby,” “Superstar,” “Good Kisser,” and “Nice & Slow” were among them. Teyana Taylor and Victoria Monét collaborated to perform a rendition of “Bad Girl,” while Latto concluded the performance by rapping along to “Yeah!”

Audio problems periodically interrupted Usher’s acceptance speech as he thanked the previously mentioned artists. The R&B icon said, “It hasn’t been easy to get here, but it’s been worth it.” With his continued love for music and his future goals in the field, he asked a lighthearted inquiry about the award’s timing: “Is it too early for me to receive it? Since I still enjoy running and shooting as much as I did when I was eight years old.

This might be you if you’re passionate about something, you stick with it, and you’re dedicated to it. Since I’m the only one who will have this opportunity, it may be yours. Just not on this stage. However, you might also experience a moment like this,” Usher went on. “I really could not have done this without all of you, to everyone who has supported me by purchasing an album, attending a show, or otherwise helping me out.”
