In honor of her first gold and platinum records, Sexyy Red has shared the unexpected history behind one of them.
Tuesday, August 13, saw the platinum certification of the St. Louis rapper’s breakthrough single, “Pound Town,” and the gold certification of her song, “Get It Sexyy.”
She shared the creation process of “Get It Sexyy” on Instagram the next day to commemorate the event.
Unexpectedly for a song that is so joyous, the singer was experiencing depression on the night that “Get It Sexyy” was written.
“I was going through a lot after giving birth to my baby, feeling depressed and going through postpartum…,” the statement reads. I would be left in the studio by my team in Miami to write music, and I would simply sit there crying and reflect on life,” she started.
“I finally told them to send me back to St. Louis so I could see my loved ones and come back to you! After inviting all of her sisters and friends to her studio session in St. Louis, she said, “It really was a confidence booster for me. We had blunts, bottles, and food alley. I came out wit GET IT SEXYY GET IT SEXYY.” “We were so happy, and all of my sorrows were gone. I adore my family,”
“I was monain in the song cause my h0 was behind me humpin me while I was recording,” she joked in her closing remarks.

Not all of Sexyy Red’s recent noteworthy social media posts are about the BTS of “Get It Sexyy.” She entertained fans earlier in the week by making jokes about a somewhat more sophisticated version of the star that looked just like her.
A user on X with the handle @naturalista posted a selfie on Monday, August 12, and it quickly went viral because of how much the makeup artist’s look was similar to that of the rapper “Get It Sexyy.”
Someone made the joke, “you look like Sexyy Redd if she went to college & majored in physical science.” “This is ‘Wholesome Red,'” threw in another person.
“Sexy redd if she was a data analyst who graduated from college with a 4.0 GPA. Another person commented, “You look smart!,” while another replied, “Respectfully Red.”
The following day, Sexyy herself saw the message and retweeted it with her own suggested moniker, “Sophisticatedd Red?”
