The All Progressives Congress (APC) has been proclaimed the winner of all 17 chairmanship seats and all 178 councillor positions in the recently held local government elections by the Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission.

Other political parties participated, but were unable to win at any level, according to Commission Chairman Dr. Mamman Mohammed, who announced the winners following the compilation of all results. The winners will get certificates of return from the state electoral umpire, and Governor Mai Mala Buni will swear them in later.

While casting his ballot in his hometown, Governor Buni stated that he supports the federal government’s proposal to allow local government areas autonomy. He stated that this was his idea when he first took office in 2019.

“Autonomy of local government is something I support. Giving local government more power was my idea when I joined the team in 2019. The ingenuity of this joint account, he said, complements the efforts of the local governments with the state because, regrettably, roughly six of the seventeen local government areas are unable to pay their salaries. Unlike previous elections when voters exercised their civic rights amid threats from the Boko Haram insurgency, this one was held in a tranquil environment.
