Mutiu Akinabmi, a former councillor in Ogun State’s Abeokuta North Local Government, was assassinated Friday by gunmen suspected of being cultists.
According to sources, Mr. Akinbami, also called Egor, was shot in the head while riding a motorcycle.
Around 6:00 p.m., the dead was attacked in Abeokuta’s Brewery neighborhood.
Omolola Odutola, the state police command spokesperson, revealed the information in a statement on Saturday.
At around 6:40 p.m., the Divisional Police Office of Lafenwa was notified that Mutiu Akinbami, a resident of Olomore Housing Estate, had been shot close to the Brewery, she stated. According to the information, one of the masked occupants of an unregistered white tinted glass Hilux shot the dead from behind while he was riding a motorcycle home. The man was sent to Ijaiye General Hospital in Abeokuta, where a doctor pronounced him dead, after the divisional police officer promptly organized patrol units to the scene.
According to Ms. Odutola, the deceased had been on the wanted list and had previously worked at the Federal College of Education, Osiele in Abeokuta.
“Arrests have been made, and as the investigation progresses, more details will be provided,” she said.
