Big Sean has been hinting a collaboration with The Alchemist in an effort to build anticipation for his upcoming album.
On Friday, July 12, the Detroit native posted a number of pictures and videos to Instagram that summarized his last few months.
One of them was a little clip that featured a sneak peek at a brand-new song and music video that the renowned producer co-starred in.
Before Sean’s line starts, the video breaks off, but fans can hear him introduce the saxophone-heavy song by saying, “I had to shake the little shit off, you know? You have got to go get this shit, honey. You shouldn’t wait for the world to come to you. Sunshine, a light wind, and crap Take it everything in because it might all happen one day.
A fan’s tattoo of the former G.O.O.D. Music MC, a behind-the-scenes picture of Big Sean and Eminem from their “Tobey” video shoot, and copies of his new self-help book Go Higher: Five Practices for Purpose, Success, and Inner Peace are also featured in the slideshow.
Sean commented the photo, giving away that he was working on another big release: “Guess I gotta go again n show them it aint luck.”
The Alchemist and Big Sean collaborated for the first time on the track “Palisades, CA,” which is taken from the producer’s 2023 album The Great Escape, which features Larry June.
In a vlog that Sean posted on YouTube earlier this year, the two could also be seen together in the studio working on a new song.
With cameos from other big names like Tyler, The Creator, Timbaland, Hit-Boy, Lil Yachty, Charlie Wilson, KAYTRANADA, and The Internet’s Syd, the reflective video, which was driven by Sean’s reflections on “clarity,” hinted at other potential inclusions on his upcoming album.
The rapper stated that his new album was “coming soon” during his Tiny Desk Concert for NPR in March, but other than that, not much is known about it.
In addition, he debuted an unreleased song named “Get Up” during the performance, which is dedicated to his son Noah, who turned one in November of last year and samples Jodeci’s “Get On Up.”
The song “Precision,” which features a sample of the Three 6 Mafia classic “Poppin’ My Collar,” was also recently released by Sean.
Proof’s son NASAAN said late last month that he will be appearing on Big Sean’s upcoming album and that their connection has progressed to the point where he stays at the rapper’s house.
During the 2024 BET Awards, the rapper from Atlanta talked about assisting Sean Don with his upcoming release.
It’s odd because—you know what I mean?—Sean is someone I simply looked up to growing up. We’re pals now since I so closely emulated his flows and manner, he added. Since I’ve been here in Los Angeles, I’ve been sleeping at this place, treating [him] like my dog.
Thus, it’s absurd. Those “full circle” moments and practically making it happen. The universe developed an odd mechanism. It’s simply absurd. Like, whoa. The person I once admired has now become one of my fans.
Additionally, NASAAN discussed Sean’s recent album and his involvement in its production, stating: “I play a big part in just curating and just giving ideas and stuff.” I will most likely return to his place once I leave here and we will continue working on his album.
Between us, I’m in the know. That is, however, scheduled for release in late summer. I’m thrilled. Like I mentioned, he’s someone who recognizes the superstar in me. He merely wants to foster that, in a way.
