After 60 to 70 years of effort, the New Bussa Waterworks in Niger have been completed and renovated by the New-Hydropower Areas Development Commission (N-HYPADDEC).
This was revealed by Abubakar Sadiq-Yelwa, managing director of N-HYPADDEC, during a Tuesday interview in Minna.
“This project has been a source of concern for the community for nearly seven decades,” he stated. However, we made it our main focus when HYPPADDEC arrived, and it has now been finished.
“It is anticipated that the project will be launched on this month’s 30th, allowing the people to begin using potable water.”
According to Mr. Sadiq-Yelwa, the commission has, subject to resource availability, continued to build solar-powered boreholes and hand pumps in practically all HYPADDEC states.
In its catchment states, the commission has continued to support the cleansing of waterways, he continued. According to him, this was done to lessen the ongoing threat of maritime mishaps brought on by trees obstructing boat paths.
Mr. Sadiq-Yelwa added that the commission would replace the local boats in the riverine areas with fiber boats.
Mr. Sadiq-Yelwa clarified that the commission has been carrying out its numerous activities and is a continuous concern. Additionally, he has completed a number of initiatives that are important to all of the HYPADDEC states.
According to him, the commission has carried out its initiatives and programs designed to support local communities and enhance their quality of life.
Mr. Sadiq-Yelwa went on to say that the commission has kept up its initiatives to build schools, boreholes, and housing projects for resettlement.
He stated, “We have chosen to give the resettlement scheme a lot of attention because of the challenge of kind of flooding which the communities always face.”
