Just two weeks before Conor McGregor was scheduled to take on Michael Chandler in Las Vegas, his return bout was called off due to injury.
The 35-year-old Irish mixed martial arts star was supposed to headline UFC 303 on June 29 but hasn’t competed since injuring his leg in a July 2021 loss to Dustin Poirier.
His bout has since been canceled, though, for an unidentified issue. “With an injury, Conor McGregor is out of 303 versus Michael Chandler,” UFC CEO Dana White declared in a video that was uploaded on X.
In the new main event, Jiri Prochazka will challenge Light Heavyweight Champion Alex Pereira for his title.
Having previously held the featherweight and lightweight titles, McGregor is one of the biggest names in the history of the wildly popular Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) mixed martial arts circuit.
His criticism of the government’s immigration policy on social media amid Ireland’s upheaval in November garnered him attention.
